This year, Matthew D'Uva, President of SOCAP International presented the 2009 Chapter Awards at this year's Annual Conference in Miami, FL. Congratulations to all Chapters, those winners and also those who were nominated for their hard work and tireless dedication this year. We look forward to another amazing year of Chapter meeting and initiatives in 2010!
The SOCAP Chapter Achievement Awards honor the achievements of SOCAP chapters in the areas of Outstanding Program, Innovation/Creativity, Newsletter and Membership.
The Outstanding Program Award acknowledges chapter achievements in conducting programs and educational opportunities for
members locally. The winning program offered the greatest value to members in terms of education and professional development.
This year's Outstanding Program Award
is presented to the Southwest Regional Chapter for a
successful joint event entitled “Multi-Cultural Marketing
and Branding and Networking at the Speed of Sound”, held
on April 2, 2009. Sixty attendees gathered to learn best
practices on how to dissolve marketing barriers to build
brand communities. The day ended with a speed
networking session which was a big hit. Participants were
able to exchange cards, share ideas and discuss potential
business opportunities.
The Chapter Newsletter Award acknowledges achievements in publishing a chapter newsletter. The entries for this award were
judged on educational content, communication techniques, encouraging participation in local and national events and creativity.
This year's Chapter Newsletter Award was presented to the Heartland Chapter for the 2009 Spring Newsletter. This professionally designed newsletter is a must read for SOCAP members! It contains upcoming chapter and national events, a resource section of member benefits and a profile of the Chapter Board. This is the second year in a row that the Heartland Chapter has won the award.
The Innovation/Creativity Award acknowledges any activity or publication produced by a chapter that represents remarkable
creativity or innovation. The entries for this award were judged on communication techniques, innovation and creativity that inspires
other Chapters and is worthy of national recognition. This year's Innovation/Creativity Award was presented to the Great Lakes Chapter for the “Total
Communications Vehicle Build-out Project.” The Chapter
completed an innovative infrastructure upgrade to support
streamlined communications to chapter members and
prospects. The upgrade included an enhanced website and
database to make communications with Chapter members
more efficient.
The Membership Award acknowledges Chapter Membership growth and retention. The criterion is the highest retention percentage
of members based on the least number of non-renewing members from September 1, 2008 – August 31, 2009. This year's Member
Retention Award
was presented to the Georgia Chapter for
actively recruiting
and retaining SOCAP members through local activities and
initiatives that contribute to the growth of the organization.
The Chapter achieved an impressive 85% member
retention rate.

The SOCAP STAR Awards are given to hardworking, dependable and dedicated individuals who support their local SOCAP chapter. Congratulations to the SOCAP 2009 STAR Award Winners:
Holly Beatty – New York Metro Chapter (NY)
Holly currently serves as Vice President of Programs for the New York Metro Chapter. She has worked tirelessly in organizing value-added educational programs that have benefited both SOCAP members and prospects. Her enthusiasm, commitment and vision has helped make this one of the New Y ork Metro Chapter's most successful years in providing quality programming to its members.
Michele Jaffe – Georgia Chapter (GA)
Michele currently serves as Secretary for the Georgia Chapter. She has proven to be a dependable and enthusiastic addition to the Board by participating in all chapter meetings and distributing minutes after each meeting. In addition to keeping the chapter organized with meeting minutes, Michele assists with historical documentations, marketing materials and contractual information. She is enthusiastic and always willing to pitch in where she is needed!
Terry Sorteberg – Minnesota Chapter (MN)
Terry currently serves on the Minnesota Chapter and has continually provided outstanding support to the Minnesota chapter through her personal commitment to SOCAP activities at the local level. She has chaired the Hospitality Committee for over six years and has served on the chapter board for five years.
Terry has been forward thinking, practical, organized and dependable. She has helped keep the Minnesota chapter moving forward with her dedication, spirit and attention to detail. She has been very generous with her time and we deeply appreciate all of her contributions.
Linda Dickey – Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter (TX)
Currently, Linda serves as President of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter. She has been a leader in the chapter for multiple terms, has helped to coordinate successful programming and is always striving to find new ideas for chapter activities and initiatives. She has been the glue that has held the chapter together.
Jeff Maszal – Washington DC Area Chapter (DC, MD, VA)
Jeff currently serves as Treasurer for the Washington, DC Area Chapter. An excellent communicator and leader, Jeff keeps members engaged by actively networking and sharing ideas and expertise with colleagues. Jeff has been instrumental in encouraging both members and non-members to become involved in all levels of the SOCAP experience. Though only a member since 2006, Jeff has provided direction and assistance on numerous chapter programming activities. Jeff goes above and beyond the call of duty and selflessly contributes to the achievement of chapter goals and objectives. No matter what the task or challenge, Jeff is always willing to step up and offer assistance or fill in where needed.
Scott VerBracken – Heartland Chapter (NE, IA, KS, Western MO, ND)
Scott currently serves as Treasurer for the Heartland Chapter. He has helped the chapter rectify its financial accounts and does a fantastic job reporting and advising on chapter financials. Scott has also helped implement ideas that have brought his chapter together including a Linked-in group for the Heartland Chapter. Scott is constantly offering his assistance in all aspects of event planning and member communications. He not only has been a breath of fresh air as Chapter Treasurer, but he is also a true professional who brings great logic and insight to his board and chapter.
