Five Techniques to Nurture Creativity

Companies who desire to be innovative leaders in their industry must encourage and develop their employees' creativity. Here are some small ways to nurture your and your staff's creativity:

  1. At your next staff meeting, pass out 3 x 5 index cards and ask your staff to write an idea they have that's innovative and different. Or, ask them to draw a picture. The idea to begin to get them to think outside the box.
  2. Find new ways to ask the same questions. If you keep asking the same things, you will get the same answers and the same results.
  3. Work to identify the real problem. What seems like the obvious problem may not be.
  4. Take more time to consider new ideas. When you get those 3 x 5 cards, think about how you can get the ideas to work or how they can lead to another new idea.
  5. Stretch your mind beyond the first good idea. Keep searching for the really great idea, as opposed to the first good one.
