Five Steps to Add Style to Your Presentations
Once you have perfected the content of your presentation and gathered any
supporting materials (slides, handouts, videos, etc.), it's time to work on
making your presentation more effective. Here are some easy ways to add
style to your speech.
- Practice, practice, practice -- at least five times in front of a mirror.
Or, videotape yourself to see how the audience will see you.
- Change the tone and pace of your voice during the presentation. Practice
making changes when you talk to friends or family members -- actually hear
yourself sound different.
- Alter your appearance during a presentation -- especially if no on will
notice the change. Doing something such as putting your watch on the
opposite wrist will direct your attention toward your physical space instead
of on the presentation.
- Wear a vibrating beeper during the presentation and ask a friend to page
you. The physical sensation will distract you from your fear.
- Add rhythm to your movements by putting on some music while you practice
your presentation.
